Last night, on a whim, I chose to sleep outside of the hut on the decking area. I have heard it said that
sleeping outside without a tent is liberating and so it has proved. Drifting off to sleep watching the sunset
and waking up later to see the stars shining clear in the night are sights that being cocooned inside a tent
doesn’t allow. It is a lot colder mind, so it’s not an activity for winter. Also, I did have a slightly irrational
concern that I’d be mauled by rabid possums in my sleep, but overall I’m happy to have tried it.

Not much has really happened today. I walked a relatively short way, took a long coffee lunch and have
camped half a dozen kilometres before Boyle village because I found a lovely spot and didn’t really need
to go any further. Tomorrow I plan to rise early to complete the walk to Boyle and hopefully get a hitch
into the nearby town of Hanmer Springs to rest and refresh my dwindling food supplies. I’m still not
100% comfortable hitching, which seems to be a common problem for people from the UK, but hopefully
it will work out ok. If not, I have a 55km road walk to look forward to. Or more likely a taxi if I ever get
phone reception again!
