A grueling 15km day. Ordinarily I would have expected it to be easy, a relatively level, gravel BMX trail,
but my body had ideas otherwise.

Ben and Natalie arrived in town yesterday, so I had company for a coffee and cake breakfast before
finally waving goodbye to Wanaka. After walking solo through the last section it has been rather nice to
have company to speed the kilometres by today. Not that the distance hasn’t dragged terribly for us all for
some reason. I think it is perhaps a lingering hangover from the arduous ups and downs of the previous
section. The original plan was to walk past Glendu bay to Fern Bern hut, which was a further 10km on the
Motatapu alpine track. However after taking nearly 5hrs to do a walk that would usually take 3, the
consensus was to stop for the night at Glendu holiday park and have an emergency afternoon napping
session. Hopefully an evening playing cards and resting up will lead to a more energetic day tomorrow. It
rather needs to as I will need to compensate for knocking off early today.
