Today’s rest day has been spent with the customary trail admin tasks of paying bills, washing clothes,
finishing up blog posts and planning for the weeks ahead. Sometimes this life as an unemployed hobo
seems exhausting ?

I found myself thinking last night (I blame the wine) that today marks 2 weeks on the trail. It both seems
like yesterday when I was boarding the plane to come here and also a lifetime ago. So many new
experiences and new friends have been encountered in such a short space of time that I can’t help but feel
fortunate.

This trail has contained some of the toughest walking I have ever done, but I have barely ever wished to
be doing anything other than what I am doing now. That’s not to say that I have suddenly become a
grizzled backcountry man and haven’t spent much of the past 2 weeks pining for hot showers, a real bed
and the comforts of home, but as an antidote to taking things for granted I’ve found nothing better. The
ability to get fresh water by simply turning on a tap seems almost magical after a week filtering water
from streams. And don’t even get me started on free WiFi…
