Today was really the TA in microcosm. Lovely views, some great trail, a lot of awful trail and
inexplicably having to commando crawl under a barbed wire fence.
The day started well, waking early from a wonderfully uninterrupted sleep for my customary breakfast in
bed. Yes, this trail has been a little like mother’s day for me every day. Unfortunately, having thoroughly
enjoyed breakfast, I made the mistake of closing my eyes, just for a moment, or maybe several moments.
Suffice to say, my hut departure wasn’t the earliest. Finally hitting the trail, immediately being swallowed
by tranquil forest and continuing on the beautifully constructed trail from yesterday was a joy. 30 people
trying to cook breakfast and pack for a day on trail is hardly a relaxing start to the day even in a large hut,
so time skipping along by myself was just what I needed.
Leaving the forest after a few hours the remainder of the day was spent alternating between tussocky
wetlands (or bog if you’re being less kind), grassland and the occasional 4wd track that would spring up
from nowhere, before disappearing as abruptly as it appeared.
The best part of today has been arriving at Boundary hut, finding it deserted and having nobody else
arrive all evening. After weeks of overcapacity huts and towns, tonight’s home is an 8 bunk hut shared
between just Ben, Natalie and I. Peace, quiet and plenty of room to spread gear far and wide. With all this
space it’s amazing that Ben and I keep getting our near identical camp shoes mixed up! First world trail
problems…
