I have reached Lungötz, the very definition of a one horse town. Perhaps even a no horse town. There is no shop, no bar and the only restaurant became a casualty of covid. The only life in Lüngotz is the timber factory, which is abuzz with trucks arriving and departing.
I feel sorry for the family who run the guest house where Phil, Gareth and I are the only guests today. Having to explain that the nearest grocery store or restaurant is a 10 minute bus ride away, on a not terribly frequent bus, is clearly still a sore spot. The restaurant closure seems to have impacted far more than the owners of the restaurant. By way of mixed apology and hospitality, the proprietor served us shots of his homemade schnapps. One of blueberry and the other from pine cones and rum. Not just any pine trees though. Only Swiss Stone Pine trees, which typically grow above 1600m, as the flavour is superior. On top of three beers each (dinner replacement), these were the final nail in the coffin of our sobriety and saw us retiring to bed in short order. If the guest house business falls through, exporter of delicious, but lethal schnapps may be a good alternative business.

After a good drink sleeping without a good meal comes easier. Should have got a lift off one of the timber trucks.
Well, I guess the next stop will be luxury compared to this one, and a good night’s sleep is not to be sniffed at.
