Today is a good news, bad news, kind of day. Several days ago my blog website was deleted and overwritten with a default template. I still suspect this was a foul up by the hosting company, but if nothing else it has shown that I need to get my own backups sorted. Anyway, the blog is now restored as, foul up or not, the customer service is pretty excellent. I am really happy and relieved by this, as I was concerned that everything would be gone and not able to be restored. The bad news. I thought I would be able to recreate the five days or so of blog entries that weren’t captured by the restore based on what is held in my phone app. Unfortunately, as soon as I opened the app post restoration, it synchronised with the online version and deleted the posts from the app. The upshot being that there is now a five day whole in my writing, which I can’t recreate. Having gone to the trouble of writing, and especially as I now have no recollection what I actually wrote about, this is really disappointing.

In terms of walking today, after last night’s overindulgence, a hungover Gareth departed for a day of recovery in Salzburg rather than hiking. A shame as the walking was generally lovely. The hour or two road walk into Werfen less so, but overall it was a nice, if tiring, stage. Secure in my accommodation booking, I even took time out to cook lunch (a rare treat), before a later stop for coffee and cake (a pretty habitual treat).

For the first time, I have no clear plan for the next few stages. Many of them are short enough to walk two in a single day, which makes it difficult to decide how far to go each day. Hopefully everything works out as I would really prefer to have things booked in advance. But given the cancellation charges on most huts it doesn’t make financial sense to book them before being sure of my dates. Hopefully a plan will form in the coming days.
